Public Tour

Those experiencing the Public tour are asked to gather in the welcome room any time after 1:30 p.m. and the tour will begin by 2:00. The buildings are air conditioned and handicap accessible, there is seating areas throughout the tour, and a golf cart is provided for those who need it. Since there is a limited number of spots reservations are required.

This Tour Includes:

  • The first step on the tour is a 20 minute documentary on Emil Tyden and the farms with interviews with the Tyden family descendants and local people who lived and worked on these farms will be shown.
  • Another area on the tour is a walk through the majestic buildings and antique farm equipment.
  • The hog house was turned into a climate controlled museum of family and local history from the 1940s and 1950s. A short Power Point presentation of the Sears house is also shown here.
  • Judy's Gardens and the summer kitchen are another feature of the tour. Visitors will be surprised and delighted at Judy's ideas and the ways she has carried them out. The Summer Kitchen gives a colorful glimpse of cooking in the past. There is a wood stove, pots, pans, canned goods, and much more.

The farm is located 20 minutes southeast of Mason City, Iowa and 2 hours northeast of Des Moines, Iowa on a hard surfaced road.  It is all handicap accessible except the hayloft.  The meeting room in the barn and the climate controlled museum in the hog house are air conditioned.  Length of the tours depends on the areas chosen and the amount of time decided on when the tour is set up.  Cookies and drink are served as on farm visits in the past.  Catered meals are also available and served in the barn meeting room.  The guided tours are offered June through September BY RESEVATIONS ONLY with reservations made at least a month in advance.  Contact the current owners Judy and Ted Pitzenberger for information on the options, catered meal, pricing and to arrange a tour.  CONTACT US
